2 new additions to the Coopers AMP

The Coopers Amp are pleased to announce two new additions to the Amp Alive bill, as they welcome Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors and Urthboy to the list of shortlisted acts for The 8thAustralian Music Prize. Both acts will perform alongside fellow shortlisted artist Hermitude at the free event to be held in Melbourne’s Federation Square on February 1st 2013.

Hosted by two prominent Australian artists in their own right, Clare Bowditch and Kevin Mitchell, Amp Alive will showcase some of Australia’s finest. It is also where the remaining shortlisted acts will be announced. The event is free and open to the public, thanks to the support of City of Melbourne and Federation Square.

Handpicked from a final list of 71 official entrants, not to mention a field of more than 300 Australian artist album releases, Darwin’s Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors are welcomed to The Coopers AMP shortlist for debut full-length release My Little River (Mangy Dog/Fuse). Since its release in May 2012, the album has generated much praise, taking out the Jagermeister AIR award for Best Independent Country Album. It also picked up four stars in arecent Sydney Morning Herald review and Album of The Week on Radio Nationalupon its release.

Also joining the official shortlist is Sydney-based MC Urthboy, with his fourth solo album Smokey’s Haunt (Elefant Traks). Released in October 2012, the album is hailed Urthboy’s finest to date, spanning party nights to politics and everything in between. With collaboration from the likes of Solo (Horrorshow), Alex Burnett (Sparkadia) and Daniel Merriweather, thealbum’s long line of triumphs include a #14 ARIA Album Chart debut, a nomination for triple j’s Album of the Year J Award and four-star reviews from The Australian, Rolling Stone and Sydney Morning Herald, among others.

A total of nine Australian artist albums will be recognised in The Coopers Amp Shortlist and celebrated at Amp Alive on February 1st. The winner of The Coopers Amp, and the $30,000 prize money courtesy of principal partner PPCA, will then be crowned in March.
