VIRGIN AUSTRALIA increase baggage allowance for musicians

VIRGIN AUSTRALIA increase baggage allowance for musicians on domestic flights, allowing 64kg!

We were thrilled with the announcement, made at the official opening of Bigsound 2016, that Virgin Australia has increased their baggage allowance for musicians on domestic flights, allowing 64kg across four pieces of checked luggage.

The Virgin Australia baggage discounts were enacted by Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN) and Virgin Australia in 2011 as part of an initiative aimed at addressing the ongoing problems musicians face when travelling with musical equipment.

Following discussions led by AMIN, Virgin Australia implemented the discount, offering the music industry a baggage allowance of 32kg (across three pieces of checked baggage), which has now been doubled to 64kg (across four pieces of checked luggage) The allowance is available to  individual artists who are members of their local AMIN body or of one of the additional approved Australian music bodys including APRA and AIR and ARIA.

We encourage bands to pre-weigh their gear and book ahead to ensure the discounts apply. Discount terms and conditions can be found here.

In addition to the baggage allowance AMIN has a Virgin Australia travel offer available to members of the national AMIN network that include a wider selection of discounted through the Travel Beyond Group booking portal. Discounts include up to 7 per cent off on all domestic fares – excluding sale fares*. AMIN members travelling on Virgin Australia flights within Australia will also be able to make one free date change to their booking.
